Born in Lisbon, Sara Gouveia is an award winning filmmaker and photographer living in Cape Town. Her mid-length documentary “Mama Goema” won the award for Best SA Documentary at the TriContinental Film Festival 2011, screened at festivals worldwide and was broadcast on SABC. She was an alumnus of the Durban Film Mart 2014 Pitching Forum, IDF Academy Summer School 2015 and 2017, Encounters Producers Lab 2015 and Rough Cut Lab and a Hot Docs Blue Ice Fellow with her first feature film “The Sound of Masks“, which premiered at IDFA 2018.
