A unique and enthralling mixture of investigation and animation as the director goes in search of the reasons why and how her cousin, Chris, an investigative journalist, came to meet his death in war-torn Croatia. The journey takes her from the simple explanations originally offered into a maelstrom of darkness as she crosses the border into Croatia and equally crosses the border into a world of mercenaries, right wing paramilitaries and the butchery of old and young alike. Her rosy picture of her beloved cousin begins to be recoloured – the roses turn to blood. Peppering the documentary footage with simple but telling animation adds immeasurably to her sinister discoveries. To quote the Hollywood Reporter:

Kofmel re-creates the kind of dark fantasy imagery that her 10-year-old imagination conjured up on first hearing of her cousin’s death in a faraway land.
